There was a huge uproar by the opposition on the issue of lathicharge in Bihar Assembly: CM Nitish got angry, said – do not talk useless…
Patna. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday expressed his displeasure over the opposition members creating ruckus in the Assembly. Although his words got a little confused at times while speaking, he maintained his composure. After the Chief Minister’s retort, the opposition MLAs came in front of the chair in the House and started raising slogans against the government.
The Chief Minister said, “Don’t talk nonsense. I keep sitting and listening to all of you. Is this the way? How much your number has reduced. How many people are with you? We are 202. How many are with you? Sit quietly.” He meant the 202 MLAs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The opposition members did not calm down and started raising slogans from their respective seats, due to which the Chief Minister lost his patience.
He said, “What you people are doing is not right. Did your government ever do any work? You people did nothing. We did everything. Our government did so much work, did such a good job. Earlier no one would dare to leave the house after the evening.” Meanwhile, the opposition members kept raising slogans against the government. At the beginning of Question Hour on Monday, the opposition had raised the issue of alleged lathi charge on ‘chowkidars’ and ‘dafadars’ (village guards) in Patna.
They were protesting against the state government’s decision to change the existing system of their recruitment, which has been going on since the British era and under which this job has been transferred from generation to generation in the same family. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Kumar Sarvjeet raised the issue of alleged use of force. He said, “Chowkidars and dafadars were protesting peacefully for their demands, but they were beaten brutally. Don’t they have the right to protest democratically? And those who beat them were the policemen themselves.”
Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar’s appeals had no effect on the creating ruckus of the opposition members and the questions asked by the MLAs during the Question Hour were disrupted. In view of the situation, Water Resources Department Minister and senior Janata Dal United (JDU) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary sought permission from Speaker Prem Kumar to reply on behalf of the government.
He said, “People have the right to protest peacefully, but they cannot disrupt public life nor indulge in violence and arson. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has taken historic decisions for the welfare of chowkidars and dafadars and comprehensively improved their service conditions.”
The minister asked the opposition not to shed ‘crocodile tears’ on the issue of chowkidars and dafadars. However, NDA constituent and Chirag Paswan’s party LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA and state president Raju Tiwari urged to continue the already ongoing appointment process of Chowkidar Dafedar.
During this, the Chief Minister asked Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav to speak on this issue. Yadav said that the government is ready to listen to the demands of chowkidars and dafadars. “We are ready to meet their four- or five-member delegation and will consider their demands sympathetically,” he said. After the assurance of the Minister, the uproar subsided and the Question Hour proceedings began.
