There was no carelessness…Producer Rajan Shahi’s response to the accident on the sets of ‘Anupama’ – Read

A major accident took place on the sets of Rupali Ganguly’s TV serial ‘Anupama’ 8 days ago i.e. on 1 November. During the shooting of this popular serial of Star Plus, a camera assistant died due to electric shock at 9.30 pm. After this incident, All Indian Cine Workers Association had held the production house of the serial responsible for this accident. Now a statement has been issued on this entire matter by producer Rajan Shahi and his production house director.

In his statement, Rajan Shahi writes that we, Director’s Cut Production and Shahi Production Pvt. Ltd. has been entertaining the TV watching audience for the last 18 years. Our popular TV serials ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Vidaai’, ‘Anupama’ have received love from people not only in the country but also abroad. More than 300 talented professionals have supported us in this task of bringing smiles on the faces of crores of people, this work would have been impossible without them.

Camera assistant died accidentally

“We try our best to create a safe environment on the sets for the artists and technicians who work with us. We consider him a member of our family. On 14 November 2024, an unfortunate accident occurred during the shooting of the TV serial ‘Anupama’. On a set in Film City, Ajit Kumar, the camera attendant sent by the vendor, received an electric shock when he accidentally lifted the light rod with the camera. Actually, while lifting the light rod, Ajit was neither wearing slippers nor had gloves in his hands. The DOP present on the set has also confirmed that this was a human error. After this accident, Ajit Kumar was immediately taken to the hospital and he was given immediate medical attention but unfortunately, we lost him.”

Compensation given to the family

“We believe that what happened was extremely tragic. After Ajit’s death, the production called his family from Patna to Mumbai. We sent flight tickets to his family and made arrangements for him to come to Mumbai. Meanwhile, all the necessary legal formalities were also completed. Ajit Kumar’s hospital and medical expenses were covered without any negligence on the part of the production house. Ajit Kumar’s family has been compensated by the production house and the family has expressed gratitude to the production for this compensation amount. Besides, the insurance of the deceased will also be given directly to the beneficiaries nominated by him. How everyone is taken care of on the production sets.” While stating this, Rajan Shahi’s production has also threatened the news portal spreading wrong news related to this incident of legal action.
