“There was no Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant”: Anil Kumble reveals why Rohit Sharma is a special captain

Anil Kumble has heaped massive praise on Rohit Sharma for his inspiring captaincy as India National Cricket Team continues to lead the World Test Championship standings. India defeated England 4-1 and Bangladesh 2-0 under Rohit’s captaincy.

In the second and final Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, he led from the front and played an impactful innings. His style was copied by other batters of the team, and the hosts won the contest despite losing more than two days due to rain and a wet outfield.

Kumble said that Rohit has marshaled his troops to perfection despite a lack of resources at times.

“There was no Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the England series, but Rohit Sharma still managed to outclass the opponents with the help of young players. There have been times when big players were not in the team, but we still managed to clinch the series. This makes Rohit Sharma a special captain,” Anil Kumble said.

He also spoke about the match-winners in the team. “Rohit Sharma is blessed with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. The speedster is a world-class bowler who can take wickets in any session. But you need a leader who can lead big players and get the best out of them during challenging phases. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, and several others have performed under Rohit’s leadership,” he added.

“Rohit doesn’t think much about his performances because he is more focused on results. He has got the players, who can rally around him and ensure that team wins the game,” he concluded.

India have won 12 out of 18 Tests under Rohit’s captaincy.
