There will be torrential rain for 3 days from today!, Meteorological Department alerts of cyclonic storm

New Delhi. A deep depression forming in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a storm. Due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in some states of India. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about this. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rain and strong winds in many areas for the next three days from today. Meanwhile, the government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges.

After the alert was issued by IMD, holiday for schools and colleges has been declared for today in districts like Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kadumbalore and Mayiladuthurai. In view of the heavy rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department, it is likely that school holidays may be extended for the next one or two days. That means there can be a holiday on 28th and 29th November also.

Cyclonic storm threat
The Indian Meteorological Department said that there is a strong possibility of the deep depression forming in the Bay of Bengal turning into a cyclonic storm. As per the information so far, this deep depression is located about 720 km south-east of Chennai and 520 km south-east of Nagapattinam. The Meteorological Department said that this cyclonic storm will move in the north-west direction and will affect the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in the next two days.

Heavy rain and impact on daily life
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. According to IMD, districts like Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Kadumbalore may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rain in some areas on 27 and 28 November. Light to moderate rain may occur at some places on November 29.

Heavy traffic jams are being seen in Chennai and surrounding districts due to rain. Traffic has been disrupted due to water logging on major routes like OMR Road. Apart from this, flights at Chennai airport were also affected. In view of the weather warnings, citizens have been appealed to stay safe and follow the guidelines issued by the local administration.
