There’s a shocking trade suitor for Kawhi Leonard
The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly still high on Kawhi Leonard and don’t want to trade him, despite the salary cap circumvention investigation.
However, that won’t stop other teams from trying to get him.
The former Finals MVP is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, and he was finally healthy again.
That’s why, according to Yahoo Sports insider Kevin O’Connor, the Golden State Warriors still want to lure him to Northern California.
The Warriors want to trade for Kawhi Leonard
“I do think the Warriors still want Kawhi Leonard, and I still think the Warriors are still going for Kawhi Leonard,” the insider said. “I don’t think this Warriors’ love for Kawhi Leonard has declined at all. We heard all about it at the deadline after it passed. I think it’s still there, it’s just a matter of if the Clippers are actually going to decide to go young.”
The Warriors are also reportedly keeping tabs on LeBron James, though it sounds highly unlikely they could add both while keeping their core intact.
They would probably have to move on from Draymond Green, assuming the Clippers won’t want Jimmy Butler while he’s recovering from a season-ending ACL injury.
Also, the Warriors would most definitely have to give up their No. 11 pick for the Clippers to even consider picking up the phone.
Leonard has some durability issues, and there’s plenty of uncertainty regarding his future, given that the league could technically void his contract if Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is found guilty of circumventing the salary cap to sign him.
Still, with the Warriors looking to maximize Stephen Curry’s championship window while it’s still open, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. might have to take some risks.
