In the summer season, going on a long journey to enjoy holidays or for some important work is a big task for everyone. Especially these days, when the heat of the sun and severe heat waves are wreaking havoc across North India including Uttar Pradesh, it becomes very important to take special care of health during travel. Dehydration, headache, dizziness and extreme fatigue are very common due to scorching sun, hot winds and long hours of travel. Many times people ignore their health in the excitement of travelling, due to which they fall seriously ill. If you are also planning a long journey in this season, then these 10 easy and surefire tips suggested by doctors and travel experts will be very useful for you.

Take special care of hydration and leave at the right time The first rule to avoid heatstroke and dehydration during travel is to avoid dehydration in the body. Keep drinking water before starting the journey and at regular intervals throughout the journey. Keep with you not just plain water, but also ORS solution, glucose, lemon water or coconut water, which maintain the balance of electrolytes in the body. Also, try to start your journey early in the morning or in the evening after the sun sets rather than in the bright afternoon sun. By doing this you will avoid coming in direct contact with the scorching hot winds of the day.

Be careful while choosing clothes and keep your diet light. For a comfortable experience in long journeys, wear only loose-fitting and cotton clothes. Dark colored or synthetic clothes absorb more sunlight, which increases the body temperature. To protect yourself from the sun, use full sleeve clothes, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. Talking about food, completely avoid eating heavy, oily or spicy food during travel. There is a risk of food poisoning by eating open, thorny fruits or stale food found on the way, hence keep light homemade snacks like makhana, roasted gram or fruits with you.

Skin care, important breaks and don’t forget these important things Apply good quality sunscreen lotion on your face and hands at least 20 minutes before leaving the house so that harmful UV rays do not harm your skin. If you are driving yourself, do not make the mistake of driving continuously. After every two to three hours of travel, stop the car at a shady place or dhaba, take a break of 10-15 minutes, do some stretching and sprinkle cold water on the eyes. Also carry a small medical kit with you which includes ORS, Pudin Hara, essential medicines for fever and vomiting. By keeping these small but very important things in mind, you can make your long journey very memorable and pleasant even in this summer season, without any fatigue or illness.
