Three big banks of the country have announced changes in the rules related to ATM cash withdrawal (ATM New Rules), which are going to be implemented from April 1, 2026. The country’s largest private sector bank i.e. HDFC Bank is included in this list. Apart from this, Punjab National Bank and Bank have also decided to make some amendments in the rules. Customers should be aware of this in advance. So that there is no problem of any kind later.

Cash withdrawals made through UPI from ATMs in HDFC Bank will now be included in the monthly free ATM transaction limit. Meaning, you will have to pay a fee if you withdraw more than the free transaction limit of HDFC Bank. Withdrawals exceeding the prescribed limit will attract Rs 23 plus applicable taxes for each transaction.

Bank new rules

Bank has changed the number of free ATM transactions for users. Now customers can do a maximum of five free financial transactions every month at the ATM. Whereas non-financial transactions will be unlimited. For transactions at ATMs of other banks, the limit of free transactions has been fixed at 3 in metro cities and 5 in non-metro cities. This will be applicable to all types of transactions.

For transactions exceeding the prescribed free transaction limit, Rs 23 will be charged on each financial transaction and Rs 10 for non-financial transactions. You may have to pay a charge of Rs 25 if an ATM transaction is rejected due to insufficient funds in the account.

Public sector Punjab National Bank has also announced changes in the limit for withdrawing cash from ATM, which will be applicable from April 1, 2026. Cash withdrawal limit from ATM on debit cards like Rupay NCMC Platinum Debit Card, Rupay NCMC Platinum International Debit Card, Rupay Woman Power Platinum Debit Card, PNB Palash Debit Card, Rupay Business Platinum NCMC Debit Card, PNB MasterCard Platinum Rise, Visa Gold Debit Card has been reduced to Rs 50,000, earlier this limit was Rs 1 lakh.

The bank has announced to reduce the ATM cash withdrawal limit from Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 75,000 for cards like Rupay Select Debit Card, PNB Rupay Select Neo, Visa Signature Debit Card, MasterCard Business Debit Card and PNB Rupay Select Excel.
