“They all are kids”: Aakash Chopra names an Indian batter, who needs to perform to help his teammates in Test cricket

Aakash Chopra has said that Virat Kohli’s form is a concern. He has scored just two Test hundreds since the start of 2020. Aakash wants Kohli to spend time at the crease.

“Kids (young India batters) play big shots and they have their own style. Kohli’s presence in the middle will bring the calming influence. He can take the game forward and it will be a problem if he doesn’t return to form.”

Kohli hasn’t been able to read the line and length of the spinners.
Kohli posted 1 and 17 in India’s 113-run loss in the second Test against New Zealand. He accumulated 70 runs in the second innings of the previous Test in Bengaluru but posted a duck in the first.

“Virat Kohli has scored just two Test centuries in the last five years. His numbers are concerning. Kohli played six innings in 2020 and recorded an average of 19. He was a part of 19 innings in 2021, but his average was 28, with no ton.

“In 2022, he played 11 innings and had an average of 26, with no hundred. He scored two hundreds in  2023 and took his average to 55 but one century came on a flat track in Ahmedabad. You won’t rate that too much. This year, he was going at an average of 32 in eight innings and now he failed in the second Test against New Zealand,” he said.

Virat has scored 245 runs at an average of 27.22 in 10 test innings in 2024.

“If Virat doesn’t score runs, it becomes a big issue for India. You need contributions from him as your plans revolve around this batter. The team needs  his form and contribution as apart from Rohit Sharma, the batter playing around him are kids.”
