‘They do this once every year’: Michael J. Fox reacts after CNN reports his death
Michael J. Fox has reassured fans he is alive and well after CNN mistakenly aired a tribute package appearing to announce his death.
The 64-year-old actor addressed the blunder with humour after the network accidentally published a video package titled “Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox” on Wednesday sparking confusion online.
Taking to Threads Fox joked about the shocking moment and poked fun at the situation in his signature witty style.
“How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?” he wrote. “Do you… A) switch to MSNBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wt*?”
He added, “I thought the world was ending, but apparently it’s just me and I’m ok. Love, Mike.”
According to reports the tribute video included clips from Fox’s decades-long acting career.
The clip highlighted his beloved roles as Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties and Marty McFly in Back to the Future as well as his advocacy work after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991.
CNN later removed the package and issued a public apology for the error.
“The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family,” a network spokesperson said in a statement.
Fox has remained active in recent years despite ongoing health challenges related to Parkinson’s.
