Thiago Silva desires to play at Europe again; In search of a new club

Brazilian defensive icon Thiago Silva has officially confirmed his departure from Fluminense, bringing an emotional end to his second spell at the club where it all began. The 40-year-old centre-back will now be available as a free agent with immediate effect, with his next destination expected to be in Europe.

The announcement was confirmed on Thursday, with Silva making it clear that his desire is to return to European football despite his age. After rejoining Fluminense in 2024 following a highly successful stint at Chelsea, Silva played a key leadership role both on and off the pitch, guiding a young squad with his experience and professionalism.

Silva’s return to his boyhood club was widely regarded as a fairytale chapter. He brought calmness to Fluminense’s defence, remained a vocal leader in the dressing room, and continued to show the same elite-level reading of the game that defined his career at AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and the Brazilian national team.
