Third phase of voter list verification begins, election officials will reach door to door in 4 states

Tezzbuzz Desk – The Election Commission of India has started the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision campaign to make the voter list more accurate and transparent. Under this phase, the work of voter verification and data updating has started in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur. The objective of the Commission is to ensure that the name of every eligible citizen is included in the voter list and the names of ineligible persons are removed.

Under this campaign, booth level officers (BLOs) are contacting voters door-to-door. They are providing the necessary forms to the people, which can be filled and delivered to the concerned election officials. If voters wish, they can also submit their information through online medium.

The Election Commission has clarified that the names of voters who submit applications within the prescribed deadline will be included in the preliminary voter list. At the same time, those who are not able to apply on time will also be given a chance later during the claim and objection process.

Political parties also got responsibility

To make the election process more participatory and transparent, the Commission has also included Booth Level Agents (BLA) of political parties in this campaign. These agents can collect forms from voters and deliver them to election officials. The Commission believes that this will reach out to more people and speed up the voter registration process.

Political parties can also appoint additional booth level agents as per need. Besides, the responsibility of providing registration forms to new voters has also been given to these agents.

Lakhs of voters will be verified

A large number of voters in all four states will come under the scope of this process. The Election Commission has deployed thousands of booth level officials and representatives of political parties for this. This campaign is considered important towards keeping the voter list updated and increasing the credibility of the electoral process.

Commission appealed for cooperation

The Election Commission has appealed to all eligible citizens to actively participate in this campaign. The Commission has said that when the election officials reach door to door, people should provide them with correct information, so that the voter list can be made error free.

Experts believe that such campaigns play an important role in strengthening the democratic process and ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise his or her franchise.
