The actor and his struggling days

Renowned for his unforgettable characters and dialogues, Johnny Lever has firmly established himself as one of the film industry’s best comedians. Even though he worked alongside massive stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, his journey was far from easy. The actor dropped out of school due to financial struggles and did odd jobs, such as selling pens on the streets, mimicking some famous film actors and dancing to renowned songs to earn money. At the tender age of 13, he contemplated ending his life due to his father’s alcohol addiction, who used to work as an operator in the Hindustan Unilever Plant.

Before entering the film industry, he performed stand-up comedy in musical shows and mimicked stars like Ashok Kumar on the streets of Pune, where he earned just Rs 100 for his performances. At one of his shows, veteran actor Sunil Dutt saw him and his talent, and offered him his first movie Relationship with painalongside Smita Patil, Dr. Naaz Hussein, Reena Roy and Ashok Kumar.

The actor made his debut with Sacrifice on you. Later, he became a household name and was seen in movies like Tezaab, Kasam, Dulhe Raja Khataranak, Raja Hindustani and Kishen Kanhaiya. Today, Johnny Lever’s career includes over 350 films, with standout roles.
