Today we will discuss about actress, renowned for her beauty who caught the eye of major stars eager to collaborate with her. However, fate had other plans leading her through numerous challenges. Who is this iconic actress? and what are the hidden chapters of her life? Read on to find more details.

She is none other than Srividya, the daughter of renowned comedian Krishnamurthy and celebrated Carnatic music singer M.L. Vasantha Kumari. Tragically, just a year after her birth, her father suffered an accident that left him ill, placing the entire burden of the family on her mother. Faced with financial hardships, Srividya stepped into the film industry at the tender age of 14, determined to support her family and carve out her path in cinema.

Srividya shared the screen with legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in the iconic film Apoorva Raagangal, directed by the celebrated K. Balachander. This critically acclaimed movie not only achieved great success but was also remade in Telugu, where Srividya reprised her lead role in both versions, showcasing her remarkable talent and versatility.

Srividiya’s married life

During that period, Srividya and Kamal Haasan collaborated on several films, igniting a romantic connection that blossomed both on and off the screen. Their chemistry was undeniable, but sadly, Srividya’s mother disapproved of their relationship, ultimately leading to the heartbreaking end of their romance.

Following her relationship with Kamal Haasan, Srividya crossed paths with Malayalam director George Thomas. Eager to marry him, she faced a significant challenge when he insisted on her conversion. Despite her family’s objections, Srividya made the difficult decision to convert and married George in 1978. Initially, she stepped back from her film career to honour her husband’s wishes, but turmoil soon engulfed her life.

George took control of her property and ultimately expelled her from their home. By 1980, Srividya divorced him and, facing financial difficulties, made the courageous decision to return to the film industry once more.

Srividya fought tirelessly in the High Court to reclaim her property, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her film career. She embraced character roles across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema, yet fortune seemed to elude her. In 2003, she received a devastating diagnosis of breast cancer. In her final days, Srividya made a remarkable choice: she decided to donate her hard-earned wealth to support underprivileged students in music and dance colleges.

With the assistance of actor Ganesh, she established a trust to further this cause. Srividya passed away on October 19, 2006, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and generosity.
