This actress used to earn more money than many heroes, didn’t want to work with Amitabh Bachchan because…,her name is…
In the 1980s and 1990s, Sridevi was among the few actresses who commanded a higher fee than her male co-stars.
In February 2018, Bollywood lost a legendary actress who captivated audiences with her charm and personality. With her absence, there is a void in the industry that can never be filled. We are talking about none other than the iconic late actress Sridevi. Though she may no longer be with us, she remains one of the most successful and influential actresses of all time. During her era, Sridevi was a true superstar and the highest-paid actress of her time. Not only did she rule Bollywood, but she also mesmerized audiences in South Indian cinema.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Sridevi was among the few actresses who commanded a higher fee than her male co-stars. Her pairing with Sanjay Dutt became a beloved on-screen duo after their collaboration in Mahesh Bhatt’s Gumrah. Despite the film’s success, the duo never worked together again.
Interestingly, Sridevi was initially hesitant to work with Sanjay Dutt in Gumrah. While she eventually agreed to the project, the two never interacted on set. Sridevi would finish her day’s work and leave the set without acknowledging him.
Apart from Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi’s pairing with Amitabh Bachchan was also immensely popular among audiences. Their films were box-office blockbusters, and the love for this pairing was so overwhelming that tickets would often sell out in black.
One incident involving Sridevi and Amitabh Bachchan became widely discussed. When Khuda Gawah was offered to Sridevi, she was hesitant to accept the role. To convince her, Amitabh Bachchan did something completely unexpected.
The late choreographer Saroj Khan, who worked on a song with Sridevi, recalled the breathtaking moment in the book Sridevi: The Eternal Screen Goddess by Satyarth Nayak.
“We were filming a song when the truck arrived. They made Sridevi stand near it, and the entire carrier tilted over, showering roses on her. It was quite a visual,” she shared.
Despite the grand gesture, Sridevi remained unconvinced. The actress only agreed to the film after demanding to play both Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter and wife in the story.
Sridevi delivered brilliant performances in nearly 300 films during her illustrious career. Apart from Hindi cinema, she also starred in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. The legendary actress passed away on February 24, 2018.
