The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is set to take place in little over a month’s time as all 10 teams in the T20 league get ready for another reset. The IPL auction is set to move to a new city for the two-day mega auction.

According to a report on Cricbuzz website, the IPL 2025 mega auction is all set to take place on November 25 and 26 in Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to come out with a confirmation for the same.  The IPL governing council and the BCCI are set to announce the exact schedule for the mega auction by the end of this week.

Riyadh is, of course, home to the Saudi Arabia royal family also known as ‘House of Al Saud’ who reportedly have net worth of over $1.4 trillion or Rs 1,17,68,582 crore. “It is understood that a few BCCI officials have already visited Saudi Arabia, with another batch expected to depart for the Gulf kingdom on Monday. The BCCI have narrowed down the potential venues to Riyadh and Jeddah, with Riyadh, the capital city, being the most likely host city for the event,” the Cricbuzz report read.

One concern for the BCCI is that the IPL auction dates will coincide with Team India’s first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia which takes place at Perth from November 22 to 26. “The match will be shown on Disney Star, which is one of the official broadcasters of the IPL too. Ideally, all parties want to avoid any overlap. Owing to the time difference with Australia, there is unlikely to be any clash between the match and the auction proceedings, as the auction could begin in the afternoon, Indian Standard Time,” the report added.

According to media reports, the BCCI had looked at other venues like Dubai, Singapore and London to host the IPL 2025 mega auction as well. Austria’s capital city of Vienna was also being considered but the board have narrowed down on Riyadh and have even identified the exact venue in Riyadh to organize the mega auction.

Meanwhile, all the 10 franchises have up to 5pm on October 31 to finalise their retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
