This ghat on the Pune-Kokan route is closed for half a month; Look for an alternative route

Varandha Ghat Road Closed | The number of passengers going to Konkan from Pune is large during the summer holidays, but now during the holidays, a very important news is coming out for these passengers. The famous Varandha Ghat road on the Pune Konkan route has been closed for traffic for almost one and a half months. The widening and strengthening work on this road is at a critical stage and the district administration will keep the road closed for security reasons. This route will remain closed from 25 March 2026 to 30 April 2026.

In order to carry out the widening and strengthening work on this road more efficiently, the Executive Engineers of the National Highways Department, Pune requested the sub-divisional authorities of Bhor for permission to temporarily close this part of the Bhor-Mahad road (Varandha Ghat Road Closed). Following this request, the Bhor Tehsil Administration and Bhor Inspector of Police prepared a report and the proposal was sent to the Collector for final approval. Thereafter, acting under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Collector has issued official orders to close the road for the specified period.

The Varandha Ghat road that connects Pune and Raigad districts, though scenic for travel, is considered equally dangerous. As this area has many sharp and dangerous turns, it becomes challenging to carry out the construction works here. Out of the total length of 21.10 km of the project, about 3.50 km has already been completed by diverting traffic and using ‘Dry Lean Concrete’ method. But in the rest of the area, with the water of Neera-Deoghar dam on one side and steep hilly terrain on the other side, traffic diversion has become difficult. Therefore, the administration has decided to stop the traffic in Varandha Ghat till the work is done. Varandha Ghat Road Closed

In such a case, several alternative routes have been announced to reduce the inconvenience to passengers. Accordingly, vehicles traveling towards Pune should follow the route of Mangaon, Nizampur, Tamhini Ghat, Mulshi and Pirangut. For those going towards Kolhapur, they are advised to travel via alternate routes Rajewadi Phata-Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar-Y-Surur-Satara-Karad-Kolhapur, as well as Rajewadi Phata-Poladpur-Khed-Chipalun-Patan-Karad-Kolhapur.
