“This guy is unbelievable”: Matthew Hayden hails Team India’s new star performer and he is not Yashasvi Jaiswal
India have gone to Australia with several young players. The opening Test in Perth saw the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy impressing everyone. While it is the first Australian tour of Jaiswal, Nitish made his debut in the first contest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
The world has already seen the left-handed Yashasvi and what he brings to the table. The 22-year-old amassed 161 runs in the second innings of the Perth Test to put the India National Cricket Team ahead in the contest.
On the other hand, Nitish surprised the Aussie bowlers with his attacking display with the bat. He went for his strokes and played two important innings. In the first essay, he amassed 41 runs off 59 balls with the help of 6 fours and 1 six. His knock took the score to 150.
The 21-year-old was at his best in the second essay, accumulating an unbeaten 38 runs off 27 deliveries, laced with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, who has been following Indian cricket for decades, hailed Nitish Kumar Reddy for the way he batted against the quicks. “This guy is unbelievable. It doesn’t look like that he was batting in his first Test. He was clear in his mind and played attacking cricket, which is not easy against the Aussie quicks. He looks set for a long career for the Indian team,” Matthew Hayden said on Star Sports.
