This is not Trump’s madness, this is America’s old habit, why is Washington after Greenland?

News India Live, Digital Desk: Many people considered it a joke, while others called it Trump’s boastfulness. The Danish Prime Minister had even called it ‘absurd’, on which Trump was quite angry. But do you know that this desire to buy Greenland is not just a figment of Trump’s mind? The truth is that America has been eyeing this ice-covered island for decades. Come, let us turn the pages of history and know the truth about this ‘real estate deal’. Bidding was also done in 1946. This may surprise you, but long before Donald Trump, in the year 1946, the then US President Harry Truman had also tried to buy Greenland. The Second World War (World War II) had just ended and America had understood how tremendous is the ‘location’ of Greenland. Truman had offered Denmark $100 million worth of gold at that time. Imagine how huge this amount was at that time! But Denmark clearly refused. Not only this, even before that in 1867, the US State Department had considered buying both Greenland and Iceland. What does America want? Now the question arises that why is America so interested in this icy island? Strategic Location: Greenland is a place on the map from where America can easily keep an eye on its enemies (especially Russia and China). America’s ‘Thule Air Base’ is already present here. Natural treasure: Precious mineral, oil and gas reserves may be hidden under the ice. Capture of the Arctic: As the ice is melting due to global warming, new sea routes are opening. America wants to strengthen its hold there. Is this possible? See, Greenland is not an empty plot or house, it is an autonomous region which comes under Denmark. There are people there, they have their own respect. When Trump again raised the issue of buying it, the people there said, “We are open for business, but we are not for sale.” So the overall thing is that this ‘desire’ of America is very old, but every time it has to come back after colliding with Denmark’s ‘self-esteem’. Now, it will be interesting to see whether this issue arises again in Trump’s second term or not.
