New Delhi:- Biranjasifa or yarrow is an indigenous herb. It is a herbal plant popular for its ability to cure diseases. It usually grows in the western Himalayas, especially from Kashmir to Kumaon. Biranjasipa is a flowering plant known by different names, such as Achillea millefolium, devil's nettle, milfoil, old man's pepper, sanguinary, soldier's woundwort and thousand seal. At the same time, in India it is also known by names like Yaaro, Bhootkesi, Biranjasipa, Gandana.
This plant is a local plant of Europe, Asia and northern parts of North America. Historically, it has been used to cleanse the stomach and as a pain reliever. Biranjasifa extract can help in wound healing and reduce the risk of infection. Biranjasifa extract also helps in improving mental health. Recent studies show that Biranjasifa extract has important antioxidant properties, which can control inflammation and reduce cholesterol levels in the blood.

In-vitro studies demonstrated the ability of Biranjasifa supercritical extract to alter lipid metabolism. Although this research was apparently aimed at treating pancreatic cancer, the results suggest that Biranjasifa extract can also be used to reduce cholesterol levels.

This research has also been mentioned in the National Library of Medicine. In the study, Achillea millefolium or Biranjasifa was used on rats suffering from diabetes. The result of which was found that it caused a significant reduction in total cholesterol and triglycerides in rats. In the same study, a dose of 100 mg or kg of Achillea millefolium produced significant and notable improvements in LDL and HDL-cholesterol. In another study, Achillea millefolium also decreased serum liver enzymes.

Achillea millefolium or Biranjasifa is a medicinal herb that is often used in pharmaceutical fields. It is also used in traditional European medicine to treat gastrointestinal symptoms and liver-biliary disorders.
