This one setting of the fridge will reduce the electricity bill, 90 percent people will not know about it
If you are worried about your rising electricity bill, check the settings of your refrigerator. To save electricity, it is very important to change the temperature of the refrigerator according to the season. According to Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) guidelines (REF.), proper use of the refrigerator can save thousands of rupees every month. In this article we will know which setting will save on your bill.
According to recent information and experts, if you do it correctly, a small setting inside the fridge can reduce your electricity bill by 30 to 40 percent.
What is that ‘required’ setting?
There is a ‘thermostat’ knob on the fridge, which has numbers from 1 to 7 or 1 to 5. 90 percent people think that the higher this number is, the better the fridge will work. But this is wrong.
According to experts, keeping the temperature of the fridge between ‘1 to 3’ is sufficient during monsoon or winter. If you set it to 5 or 7, the refrigerator compressor runs unnecessarily longer and the electricity bill increases. Even in summer, it is sufficient to keep this temperature at ‘4 to 5’. This small setting can save you thousands of dollars a year.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the government agency that regulates energy efficiency in India, has made it clear in its official guidelines that maintaining the right temperature in the refrigerator is most important to save electricity.
5 more important tips to reduce electricity bill
cleaning coils: If dust builds up on the condenser coils at the back of the refrigerator, it prevents heat from escaping. As a result, there is pressure on the compressor. These coils should be cleaned at least twice a year.
Check the gasket (door rubber): If the rubber on the refrigerator door is loose, the cold air inside leaks out. Due to this the fridge keeps running continuously. Try sticking a piece of paper in the middle of the door, if it comes off easily, the rubber needs to be replaced.
Do not keep hot food: Never keep hot food directly in the refrigerator. Keep it only when the temperature of the food is normal. Hot food increases the internal temperature and the refrigerator requires more electricity to reduce it.
Keep the refrigerator away from the wall: There should be at least 6 inches of space between the refrigerator and the wall. Due to this, air circulates easily and the compressor does not overheat.
Fill the fridge properly: The fridge should neither be too full nor too empty. There is no cold air in an empty refrigerator, so keeping water bottles filled helps in keeping the temperature stable.
