This origin story of Perumal Vaathiyaar is a clash of ideologies
The makers of Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 2 released the trailer of the film on Tuesday. The glimpse was released in a trailer and audio launch event of the film.
Like most expected, the trailer has given a laid of focus on the character of Perumal Vaathiyar (Vijay Sethupathi), his genesis, life as a workers union leader and eventually a left-wing brigand, the government most fears. The trailer is divided into flashback portions of Perumal and the present-day manhunt by the police department that also features Kumaresan (Soori). The over two-and-half minute glimpse is also packed with powerful lines like “Kolgai Illadha Thalaivan, Rasigana Dhaan Uruvakkuvaan. Adhu Munnetrathukku Vazhi Vagukkadhu” (A leader without an ideology will only create fans and that wouldn’t pave way for any beneficial development).
Viduthalai Part 1 was released last year and revolves around police brutality. The film received positive reviews and is considered one of the most hard-hitting films of Tamil cinema. While most of the second part had been shot during the production of the first part itself, the remainder of the filming and an extensive postproduction did not permit an immediate release after Part 1’s success. Viduthalai Part 2 will see Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Chethan, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, Saravana Subbiah, and Munnar Ramesh reprising their roles from the first film.
On the technical team, the film has music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography handled by R Velraj, and editing by R Ramar. It is produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner and Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company. The films were earlier screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Viduthalai Part 2 will release in theatres on December 20.
