Those ordering sweets from Haldiram, be careful! Before Holi, expired sweets seized from Sonpapadi to Rajbhog.
Lucknow: Just before the festival of Holi in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FSDA) has launched a strict campaign against adulteration and expired ingredients. During this time, a raid was conducted on the storage of ‘Haldiram’ in Faizullaganj area, where about 112 kg of expired sweets were recovered.
The team destroyed sweets like Sonpapadi and Rajbhog on the spot. This action is very important for the protection of people’s health.
Expired sweets found in Haldiram storage
During the raid, 1 quintal 12 kg i.e. approximately 112 kg expired sweets were found from Haldiram’s warehouse (S.R. Sales). These mainly included Sonpapadi and Rajbhog, whose use-by date was over. Their estimated value is said to be around Rs 45 thousand. The food safety team immediately destroyed all these sweets so that they could not reach the market.
Apart from this, the team sealed samples of other products like Assorted Peda, Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, Petha and Gujiya for testing. Further action will be taken after the investigation report comes.

Goods worth lakhs seized across the city
In view of Holi and other festivals, the department has started special investigation across the city. A total of 10,415 kg of spices and khoya, worth approximately Rs 55.91 lakh, were seized during the operation. 8,499 kg black pepper and 378 kg khoya were recovered from the cold storage of Ashbagh, which was of doubtful quality.
Samples of paneer and gujiya were also taken from Globe Cafe in the metropolitan area. Here 112 kg of food items (worth about Rs 45 thousand) were destroyed on the spot. A total of 15 samples have been sent to the lab for testing.
Department aims at safe festival
Food safety officials say that the risk of adulteration increases during festivals and wedding seasons. Therefore, this campaign is being run so that people can eat safe and good quality food. After the report comes, strict legal action will be taken against the guilty establishments under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
