Thousands of people took to the streets for the safety of minorities and minor girls, said – religious conversion cannot be done by force.

New Delhi. A protest march was organized by the Catholic Diocese in Faisalabad under the leadership of Bishop Andreas Rahmat. This demonstration was done to provide justice to minority girls. The aim was to draw attention to the worrying cases of alleged abduction, forced marriage, forced religious conversion and abuse of minor girls in Pakistan. The aim of this demonstration was to strongly raise concerns regarding the safety and rights of vulnerable minority children. The message given through this march was that a minor girl is not a wife and religious conversion cannot be forced.

The participants stressed the urgent need to protect the dignity, autonomy and constitutional rights of minor girls belonging to minority communities. Clergy, teachers, students, youth workers, women representatives and civil society members from different backgrounds participated in the meeting. The protesters held banners and placards demanding stricter enforcement of child protection laws and holding accountable those involved in such alleged crimes. Addressing the crowd, Bishop Rahmat highlighted that minor girls are one of the most at-risk groups in society and need immediate and uncompromising protection. He condemned forced marriage and religious conversion as serious violations of human dignity, legal norms and fundamental rights. The bishop said any form of consent obtained through coercion, fear or threat has no legal or moral validity.
