Threat to bomb schools and secretariat in Chandigarh, chaos among administrative staff

There was an atmosphere of chaos in Chandigarh on Friday morning when the news of receiving an email threatening to blow up several major schools and a government building with bombs came to light. After this threat, concern increased among the school administration, parents and security agencies and security measures were immediately intensified.

Threats to many schools including DPS school

The names of many educational institutions including DPS School, Sant Kabir School and Vivek High School Sector-38 were included in the threatening email. Apart from this, a warning was given to target Punjab Secretariat also. The email claimed that blasts could be carried out at these places within the next two days, due to which the security agencies were immediately alerted.

As soon as the threat was received, the officials of the concerned schools informed the police without any delay. After this, teams of police, bomb disposal squad and dog squad reached the spot and the school premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Children and staff were evacuated to safe locations, while security forces began thorough checks of school buildings, classrooms and surrounding areas.

Security increased in secretariat premises

According to police officials, no suspicious object or explosive material was found in the initial search operation. However, taking the situation seriously, security arrangements have been further strengthened in all the affected areas. Security has also been increased in the Secretariat premises and people coming and going there are being strictly checked.

The cyber cell of the police has also become active in the investigation of this entire matter. Authorities are examining technical evidence to identify the person or group that sent the email. Also, the police has appealed to the parents and common people not to panic and instead of relying on any kind of rumour, they should only pay attention to the official information.

It is noteworthy that about a month ago also, about 30 schools in the city had received similar threatening emails. At that time also a large-scale search operation was conducted, but no explosive or suspicious material was found. Due to such continuous threats, there is concern among the school management and parents.

The administration assured

The administration has assured that the situation is completely under control and security arrangements have been tightened. It has also been made clear that those making such threats will be identified soon and strict legal action will be taken against them.
