Three Naxalites Killed in Encounter with Security Forces in Chhattisgarh | Read
Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday.
The gunfight began in the morning in a forest area of Indravati National Park while a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Naxalite operation, stated Inspector General of Police for the Bastar Range, Sundarraj P. The operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and District Force.
Once the intermittent exchange of gunfire ceased, the bodies of three Naxalites, dressed in uniforms and armed with various firearms—including automatic weapons—along with explosives, were recovered from the site. The official noted that a search operation in the area was still ongoing.
So far this year, a total of 12 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters within the state. During a three-day anti-Naxal operation conducted by security forces in the Abujhmad region—bordering the Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Bijapur districts—that concluded on January 6, five Naxalites, including two women, were killed. On January 9, another encounter in the Sukma district resulted in the deaths of three Naxalites. Additionally, on January 3, one Naxalite was killed in Gariaband district, which is part of the Raipur division.
Last year, security forces neutralized 219 Naxalites in various encounters throughout the state. It is important to note that on January 6 of this year, Naxalites detonated an IED, targeting a vehicle in Bijapur district, which led to the deaths of eight police personnel and their civilian driver.
