Kolkata Hotel Dog Story: These days, the most talked about name in Kolkata’s prestigious Taj Bengal is not that of any celebrity, but that of ‘Thumki’. This lovely dog, born in the hotel campus, recently went viral when a video of her surfaced, in which she was seen strutting in the grand lobby of the hotel.
The caption of the post was written in his style – “This is the annex of Thumki Estate, where people stay by giving papers in exchange for treats.” The hotel’s official Instagram account also humorously replied, “It is always a pleasure to be under your care, the standard of treats has been noted.”

Thumki was born in the hotel premises to her mother ‘Chumki’. Her sister found a new house, but Thumki chose to stay here and gradually became a part of the hotel family.
Every morning she sets out on her ‘perimeter rounds’ – running around the hotel premises, chasing birds and seemingly making sure everything is in order. As the hotel comes into action, she returns to her cozy spot near the parking lot, maintaining complete privacy for guests.

The care of Thumki and the other campus dogs is ensured by the initiative of the hotel’s Senior Vice President Operations K. Mohanchandran and his wife Seema. Through their efforts, Thumki receives regular vaccinations, safe shelter and the care she needs.
