According to an Indian Express report, initial ticket sales for the Visakhapatnam ODI were lukewarm, leading the Andhra Cricket Association to consider selling tickets over the counter. But after Kohli’s century in Ranchi on November 30, tickets for December 1 and 3 were sold out within minutes of going online. Ticket prices ranged from Rs 1,200 to Rs 18,000, but all the tickets were sold out.
Y Venkatesh of the media and operations team of Andhra Cricket Association said, “Tickets for the first phase started selling on November 28. The response was not good. But a day before the second phase was sold out, Kohli scored a century in Ranchi. That changed everything. We all know he has a great record here, so when the tickets for the second and third phases came online, they disappeared within minutes.”
Without stars, it would have been difficult to generate any excitement in non-metro cities like Ranchi, Raipur and Visakhapatnam. Last year, when the stadium hosted a Test match between India and England, which Kohli had to skip due to personal reasons, he had to put up hoardings on National Highway 5 to remind locals of the match.
Let us tell you that Virat Kohli’s figures in Visakhapatnam have been very excellent. Kohli has scored 587 runs in 7 innings at an excellent average of 97.83. During this period, he has also scored three centuries and two half-centuries. Kohli’s best score here has been 157 not out.
