Security arrangements have been further strengthened for the parliamentary elections to be held in Nepal on March 5. Additional security personnel have been deployed to maintain security at more than 11,000 polling stations outside the Kathmandu Valley, especially in the southern plains of Nepal. Around 3 lakh security personnel have been deployed for these elections, which include police, army, election police and other security forces.
Let us tell you, more than 3,000 policemen have left from Nepal Police Academy for election security. These security personnel will be deployed in Morang, Dhankuta, Udaipur, Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Siraha, Parsa, Saptari, Sarlahi and Rautahat districts. Nepal Police’s Central Spokesperson Abhinarayan Kafle has confirmed that security forces are being deployed in six provinces except Karnali.
Let us tell you, Nepal Army has also been deployed for election security. Army will be deployed in place of police in airports, jails and other sensitive areas. Apart from this, the Army will also patrol as a third security layer during the elections and provide other assistance as required.
According to Nepali officials, this time out of total 10,967 polling stations, 3,680 have been declared “very sensitive”. Earlier, 3,412 polling stations were given this category in the 2022 elections, but this time 268 more polling stations have been declared “very sensitive”.
Let us tell you, special attention has been paid to the security arrangements for these elections, especially in the first elections being held after the Gen-Z insurgency. Due to this rebellion, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign. As part of the security measures made by the authorities regarding these elections, more than 338,000 security personnel are being deployed so that the elections can be conducted peacefully.
