TikTok banned in America, Xiaohongshu becomes new option
Obnews Tech Desk: Due to the fear of ban on TikTok in America, many American users are turning to alternative social media apps. The most popular option among these is China's social media app Xiaohongshu. According to a New York Times report, a woman named Manimatana Li, who had more than 10,000 followers on TikTok, urged her followers to connect with Xiaohongshu.
Lee made videos of her dancing with her child and washing dishes, one of which received over a million views. Lee said, “If TikTok is banned, we will all move to this Chinese app.” This trend is becoming increasingly popular.
Xiaohongshu: What is this app?
Xiaohongshu means “Little Red Book”. It became the most downloaded free app in the US App Store on Tuesday (January 15). It has more than 300 million users in China, but now American users are also adopting it rapidly.
Some Americans believe that the US government's concerns about TikTok are unnecessary.
User trends and increasing popularity of the app
Although TikTok is still very popular, US lawmakers fear that the Chinese government can access users' data. Xiaohongshu, also known as “Red Note,” is becoming increasingly popular among American users.
Lee said, “This app is like a new beginning for me. If it makes me happy, I'll stay here.”
#TikTokrefugee hashtag craze
The hashtag “#TikTokrefugee” is trending on Xiaohongshu. It is working to connect American and Chinese online communities. Users can easily connect with each other through the location feature on this app.
