In Match 27 of the 2026 T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan at R Premadasa Stadium, India’s Tilak Varma made his mark straight away by bowling out Shadab Khan with his very first ball.
Shadab was dismissed on the first ball of Pakistan’s 13th over by Tilak Varma when he bowled a full ball outside off and Shadab tried to play a large shot with poor timing resulting in a catch to Shivam Dube at long-off.

Pakistan Faces an Uphill Battle as India Moves Closer to Victory in T20 World Cup 2026
Right-handed batsman, Usman Khan, had a poor performance, scoring 14 off 15 balls, including only 1 four, before being dismissed and thus leaving the Men In Green in dire straits at 78 runs, seven wickets down in 12.1 overs.
Collapse of Batting for Pakistan While Under Pressure
Chasing total of 176 – Pakistan had a bad start with Farhan Sahibzada out, scoring a four ball duck on 1st ball of the innings, bowled by Hardik Pandya’s initial over.
Then came Jasprit Bumrah’s 2 wickets in back-to-back balls in the 2nd over, sending Saim Ayub back to the pavilion with just 6 runs and followed by Salman Agha for only 4 runs.
Next up for Pakistan was Babar Azam, who was removed from the innings by Axar Patel, while scoring just five runs.
However, at least one batsman stood tall in Usman Khan, who scored 44 runs from 34 balls. Besides Usman, few of his partners were able to score and the team quickly dropped to 73 runs, five wickets down.
Pakistan’s lower order batsmen fell quickly, as Shadab Khan (14), Mohammad Nawaz (4) and Faheem Ashraf (10) failed to approach the boundary and leaving Pakistan in distress at 97 runs, nine wickets down after 16 overs.
Before that, India had established its ballpark total of 175 runs with seven boundaries and four sixes in 20 overs. Lead-off batsman Ishan Kishan scored the most runs in the innings (77) off 40 balls, with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Other important batsmen included Tilak Varma (25), captain Suryakumar Yadav (32) and Shivam Dube (27), who played a significant part in building up the Indians’ prolific innings.
