Tim Cook reveals that Apple Watch saved his father's life – know how
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently shared a personal story in an interview on the food podcast Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware. While the conversation mainly focused on lighter topics like food, chocolate, and his eating recommendations, Cook also talked about how the fall detection feature on the Apple Watch was instrumental in saving his father's life.
During the interview, when asked if he ever received a medical alert on his Apple Watch, Tim Cook shared a personal story. He said, “I have not found it, but my father, when he was alive, had collapsed in the house, and he was living alone. “And the other thing that the watch does is it sends a notification to your family and emergency services if you fall, it detects the fall because of the accelerometer.” Cook added, “This alerted the emergency services, and they came out to the house. He didn’t respond to the door and so they kicked the door down – and it was a good thing because he wasn’t conscious at the time.”
One might hope that Tim Cook's father would be proud of his son at this point in the story since he is working at a company that made a product so important to his life. But as is often the case with parenting, things were not so straightforward. When a podcast interviewer asked Cook if his father was proud of him, Cook responded, “No, honestly, he was focused on the door. He was more upset because they kicked me out the door!”
Cook explained in interviews that he starts his day before 5:00 a.m. and uses the quiet early hours to read emails. He finds this to be the easiest time of the day. He works at Apple Park four days a week and from home on Fridays.
Cook, despite his busy schedule, finds joy in simple pleasures like hiking. Exploring national parks and dining at Ethel's Fancy in Palo Alto, where she regularly orders octopus. She likes dark chocolate, Chardonnay and fish dishes. When asked about his ideal last meal, Cook said it would include hamachi crudo, branzino, broccolini and chocolate dessert.
