AIMIM chief Owaisi said at a public meeting in Hyderabad, “…Tipu Sultan was martyred fighting the British…Tipu did not write love letters to the British, like Veer Savarkar had done, apologizing and promising to do whatever they asked. Tipu took up his sword and was martyred fighting to liberate his country from the British…” Owaisi further said, ‘Tipu The ring found on the Sultan’s finger had Ram written on it.”
Owaisi further said, “Is it a lie that APJ Abdul Kalam had written in his book Wings of Fire that whatever missile technology and rocket technology India has today, we are fulfilling the dreams of Tipu?…Gandhi had written in his Young Age magazine that Tipu Sultan is an example of Hindu-Muslim unity.” It is noteworthy that a controversy had arisen over the installation of Tipu Sultan’s picture in the office of Malegaon Deputy Mayor Shaan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed.
On this controversy, Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fought bravely and gave the idea of Swaraj and in the same way Tipu Sultan also fought against the British. He described Tipu Sultan as India’s son and a great warrior and said that Tipu Sultan never said anything that poisoned the society.
