Toby Radford Appointed as Afghanistan’s Batting Coach

The 54-year-old Toby Radford has been appointed as Afghanistan’s batting coach, replacing Andrew Puttick and is expected to join the squad ahead of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has also appointed Robert Ahmun as the new strength & conditioning trainer and will be joining the squad ahead of the team’s last T20I series ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Afghanistan are set to play a three-match T20I series against West Indies, with the matches being scheduled to take place in Dubai.

Currently working as the head coach of the Dhaka Capitals, Toby Radford served as the batting coach for the Pakistan Cricket Board’s High Performance Centre (2022-24) and had worked as the head of High Performance for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (2020-22).

The ECB Level 04 certified coach brings vast international experience to the Afghanistan Cricket team.

Toby Radford guided Middlesex to a national T20 title in 2008 and later served as head coach of Glamorgan and the author of the best-selling cricket book, Getting to Grips.

On the other hand, Robert Ahmun, hailing from Cardiff, Wales, is an elite strength & conditioning specialist. He most recently served as the Head of Performance Science and Medicine for the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

“With the batting coach and strength & conditioning positions now filled, the vacancies for head Coach and spin bowling coach remain open.
“The ACB is actively proceeding with the recruitment process to secure qualified individuals for these key positions,” he said.ACB has confirmed that Afghanistan are eyeing to rope in a spin bowling coach and a head coach, Jonathan Trott, who is expected to leave after the World Cup.

The West Indies cricket team is scheduled to depart on January 14 and arrive in the UAE two days later.

The first match of the T20I series in Afghanistan vs West Indies series will be played on January 19 at Sharjah Cricket StadiumSharjah. The 2nd and 3rd T20I will be played on January 21 and 22 at the same venue.
