Today is a do or die match for Pakistan, if they lose to Namibia then they will be eliminated from the World Cup.
The journey of Pakistan national cricket team in the ICC T20 World Cup has reached its most difficult phase. The crushing defeat suffered by arch-rival India has greatly weakened Pakistan’s position. Now the last match of the group stage against Namibia has become like do or die for them. If Pakistan is unable to win this match, then it will be almost certain that it will be out of the tournament.
Pakistan is at third place in the points table
According to the tournament rules, only the top two teams from each group can enter the Super-8 stage. At present Pakistan is at third place in the points table. India has already secured a place in the next round by winning all its three matches. Whereas America remains in second place due to four points and better run rate. In such a situation, the only way for Pakistan to move forward is to win against Namibia.
Pakistan strong against Namibia on paper
On paper, Pakistan looks strong against Namibia, but its recent performance has exposed its weaknesses. Especially the lack of continuity in the batting order remains a matter of concern. Big innings are expected from the team’s experienced batsman Babar Azam, opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan and young player Saim Ayub. Pakistan’s batsmen had disappointed in the match against India, due to which the team was under pressure.
Indian fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya bowled brilliantly and gave initial blows to Pakistan’s top order. The team had lost its important wickets at a very low score, due to which it could not make a comeback in the match. On the other hand, Pakistan’s leading fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi also could not leave the desired impact. However, Saim Ayub performed well in bowling and troubled the opposition batsmen.
Powerplay performance has also become a cause of concern for Pakistan. In the last match, the team had lost four wickets in the first six overs, which put additional pressure on the middle order. Due to constant changes in the batting order, the team is struggling to maintain balance.
On the other hand, Namibia may have lost all its three matches, but it has the potential to cause an upset. Team captain and experienced all-rounder Gerhard Erasmus and fast bowler JJ Smit are the key players of their team. Both the players have performed well in the previous matches and can become a threat to Pakistan.
Namibia out of the tournament
The Namibian team is out of the tournament, but it will enter the field with the intention of making a respectable farewell. If it is successful in restricting Pakistan to a low score, then the match can be exciting.
This important match will start at 3:00 pm. For Pakistan, this is not just a match but the last hope to remain in the tournament.
