A Spring Airlines flight from Tokyo to Shanghai was forced to make an emergency return on Dec. 1 after a dispute between a male passenger and a flight attendant over a seat change.

The passenger reportedly wanted to change his seat to sit next to his girlfriend, but the attendant refused, sparking an argument, according to Must Share News.

One passenger said the disagreement lasted nearly two hours after takeoff.

Unable to resolve the situation, the flight attendant called the police, prompting the plane to return to Narita International Airport, Japan Daily reported.

Footage shows attendants trying to manage the situation in the cabin until police arrived.

The disruptive passenger was arrested at Narita, while other passengers were stranded at the airport and had to wait until 10 a.m. the following day for a rescheduled flight.

The airline offered 10,000 yen in compensation to each affected passenger but did not provide accommodation, leaving many to rest on airport benches overnight.

The incident drew online criticism from netizens, with many demanding strict punishments against the male passenger for his selfisness.
