Tom Latham made history by scoring a century after 3 years, becoming the fifth NZ cricketer to do so in Test cricket.
New Zealand vs West Indies, 1st Test: New Zealand captain and veteran batsman Tom Latham created history by scoring a brilliant century in the second innings during the third day of the first Test match being played against West Indies at the Hagley Oval Stadium in Christchurch.
Latham played an innings of 145 runs in 250 balls, hitting 12 fours. During this century innings, Latham completed his 6000 runs in Test cricket and became the fifth New Zealand cricketer to reach this figure. Before him, this feat was done only by Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum.
This is Latham’s first Test century against West Indies. As a Kiwi cricketer, he has reached joint fourth position in terms of scoring Test centuries against most countries. West Indies is the sixth team against which he has scored a Test century. In this list he equaled John Reed, John Wright and Nathan Astle.
Let us tell you that after almost 3 years, Latham has scored a Test century with his bat. Earlier, he had scored a century in the Test match against Pakistan in Karachi on 26 December 2022.
In the second innings, New Zealand lost the wickets of Kane Williamson and Devon Conway till the total score of 100 runs. After which Latham and Rachin Ravindra together took the inning forward and made an excellent partnership of 279 runs in 328 balls for the third wicket.
In the first innings, Latham scored 24 runs in 85 balls.
