Tom Moody points out India’s biggest problem in current cricket setup

NEW DELHI: Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has offered an interesting take on India’s current cricketing landscape, pointing out that the sheer volume of talent has become both a strength and a selection headache for the team management.

India often find themselves facing tough calls at the selection table, with several in form and high quality players missing out despite strong performances.

Too much talent a rare problem

Speaking on Jio Hotstar, Moody described India’s situation as a rare but tricky challenge. He felt that while most teams struggle to find options, India are spoiled for choice, making life difficult for selectors and captains alike.

“One of the issues with Indian cricket is that there is too much talent. There are simply too many options. It’s a wonderful problem to have, but it becomes a nightmare for a selector or a captain,” Moody said on Jio Hotstar.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan also weighed in, stressing the importance of strong bowling units in white ball cricket. He believes teams that can defend low totals gain immense confidence.

“In white-ball cricket, bowling attacks win you tournaments. When you can defend low scores, it creates a belief within the team that you can win a game from anywhere. That belief becomes a big threat for any team in a World Cup,” Morgan said.

Depth defines India’s modern setup

India’s T20 setup in particular has enjoyed significant success in recent years, including a T20 World Cup triumph. Since then, the side has not lost a T20I series, underlining their consistency.

This has come despite high profile omissions of players such as Shreyas Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ruturaj Gaikwad from the main squad at different times.
