Kal Ka Mausam: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert in view of the intense effect of cold in many parts of the country. Cold wave conditions are expected to persist in central, eastern and northern peninsular India between 10 and 12 December. During this period, there is a possibility of a rapid decline in temperature in North-West and Western India also. The department has warned of dense fog in isolated areas of Assam and Manipur from 10 to 13 December, while fog may also remain dense in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Odisha on 10 December.

Dense fog alert has also been issued in 15 major cities of North India, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Tundla, Muzaffarnagar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Amritsar, Faridkot, Rupnagar, Nainital, Mussoorie, Manali, Shimla, Kufri, Keylong and Lahaul-Spiti. There may be a severe reduction in visibility in these areas, which is likely to affect transport services.

Light fog is expected in the national capital Delhi on December 10, where the maximum temperature can be 24 degrees Celsius and the minimum can be 8 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of fog and denseness on December 11 and the temperature may remain around 24 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively. According to the Meteorological Department, visibility will be affected in the morning and there will be a possibility of increase in pollution levels if the wind speed slows down.

Morning visibility was less than 150 meters in Moradabad, Amroha, Sambhal, Rampur and Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra and Prayagraj from December 10, hence people have been advised to be cautious while traveling in the morning.

The cold wave is expected to intensify further in Bihar in the next 48 hours. Westerly wind will blow at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, due to which the minimum temperature may drop by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of a sudden drop in night temperature in many districts.

Severe cold continues in Punjab and Haryana. On Tuesday, Rupnagar was the coldest place in these two states, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department says that from next week the maximum temperature may also go below 10 degrees Celsius, which will further increase the chill.

In view of the severe cold wave in Rajasthan, yellow alert has been issued in Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Didwana-Kuchaman and Nagaur districts. In the last 24 hours, the temperature was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur and 4.3 degrees Celsius in Nagaur. The Meteorological Department has warned that the temperature may go down further in the next two days, due to which the outbreak of cold may increase further.
