Top H-1B visa sponsors 2024: Indian and US tech giants lead the list

TECH: As the global technology sector is heavily dependent on skilled professionals, H-1B visa sponsorship data for FY 2024 shows that both Indian and US companies dominate in hiring foreign talent. The development coincides with the discussion on key themes, immigration policy and skilled workforce contribution during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025, also known as NRI Day. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved 53,665 H-1B visas for the top 10 employers in FY 2024.

Leading the list was Seattle-headquartered Amazon.com Services LLC, which had 9,265 approved petitions, accounting for 17.3 percent of the total visas in the top 10. India-based companies are playing an important role in the H-1B program, reflecting their reliance on skilled professionals to meet global business demands. Bengaluru-headquartered Infosys Ltd stood second with 8,140 H-1B approvals, accounting for 15.2 per cent of the top 10. Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) secured the fifth position with 5,274 approvals, while HCL Technologies subsidiary HCL America Inc. made the list with 2,953 visas.

Major US technology companies also ranked highly. Cognizant Technology Solutions, headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, took the third position with 6,321 approved visas, 11.8% of the total. Google LLC (5,364 visas), Meta Platforms Inc. (4,844 visas) and Microsoft Corporation (4,725 visas) also feature prominently, emphasizing their reliance on global talent to drive innovation.

Apple Inc., headquartered in Cupertino, California. received 3,873 H-1B approvals, while IBM Corporation, based in Armonk, New York, received 2,906 approvals. Together, these firms highlight the important contributions of foreign professionals to the U.S. economy and innovation ecosystem.

India continues to be the largest recipient of H-1B visas, with more than 70 percent of approvals consistently going to Indian citizens. The H-1B visa program remains a focal point in the US immigration policy debate. With the new political leadership taking office, it is expected to discuss potential reforms that will further impact the dynamics of skilled immigration.
