Fuel efficiency has always been a key factor for car buyers, especially as fuel prices fluctuate and daily travel costs continue to rise. For many users, better mileage helps lower long-term ownership expenses, particularly for regular city commuting and highway use. With several options available across segments, selecting a car with strong fuel efficiency can have a clear impact on running costs. From city-focused hatchbacks to compact sedans and hybrids, some models stand out for their fuel efficiency in everyday driving. Here is a look at the top five most fuel-efficient cars available.Maruti Suzuki VictoryFirst car on the list is Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid, which has claimed fuel efficiency of 28.65 kmpl. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine with 116 hp and 144 nm, which comes paired with an e-CVT gearbox. There’s also a 1.5-litre NA petrol with manual, AWD and CNG options.

It gets features such as 8-way adjustable, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and 60W fast charging support. It also gets an auto Alexa voice assistant with AI, Suzuki Connect with 60+ connected car features, a powered tailgate with gesture control, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8-speaker surround sound system. Safety features include 6 airbags, discs on all four brakes, electronic parking brake, 360-degree camera and level 2 ADAS features.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hirer The next set of SUVs is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder. As both SUVs are badge-engineered models developed jointly by Toyota and Maruti, they share the same engine options and deliver identical fuel efficiency figures. The strong hybrid variants of the SUV have claimed fuel efficiency of 27.97 kmpl. It’s powered by a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine producing 116 hp and 144 Nm, paired with an e-CVT gearbox. In addition, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is also offered with manual transmission options, along with AWD and CNG variants.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder

Honda City e: HEVThe only sedan on the list is the Honda City e:HEV, also known as the Honda City Hybrid with a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 27.26 kmpl. The City hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine paired with two electric motors. It has a combined power output of 125 hp and 253 nm torque and comes paired with an e-CVT gearbox. Features-wise, it gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, connected car tech, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, a 7-inch colour TFT instrument cluster and more.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Next is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio with claimed 26 kmpl fuel efficiency. The Celerio is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder NA petrol with 69 hp and 91 nm torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed MT or an AMT. Features-wise, it gets a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push button start/stop, manual air conditioning, keyless entry, voice recognition and more. Maruti Suzuki Swift The fifth car in the list is Maruti Suzuki Swift 25.75 kmpl fuel efficiency. The hatch is powered by a Z-Series, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, NA petrol engine with 82 hp of power and 112 nm of torque.
