Bollywood veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar specially praised the movie “Assi” directed by Anubhav Sinha. He described the film as unique, which “touches both the heart and the mind.” He said the film not only tells a sensitive story but also raises serious and disturbing questions about society. The key is that he doesn’t give an easy solution, but forces the audience to think. Javed Akhtar’s response has further increased the curiosity about the film.

Speaking to India Today, Javed Akhtar said, “Some films touch your heart and some films work on an intellectual level; they engage your mind. But very few films can touch both your heart and mind at the same time. I think ‘Assi’ is the only such film.” He has said that.

Javed Akhtar called the film a masterpiece, underlining the depth of the story, saying, “It is a deeply emotional story that will resonate with common people.” But on another level, they will raise some very serious questions. “This film does not offer an easy way out. Rather, it poses those questions to society.” Javed Akhtar appreciated the subject of the film and said that anyone who thinks deeply, pays attention to the happenings around them, will find the film reflective of them. He added, “It is presented beautifully and attractively. Ultimately, the film is going to leave you with both answers and questions.”

What is the story of the movie ‘Assi’?

After “Mulk” (2018) and “Thappad” (2020), “Assi” is Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha’s third collaboration. Kani Kushruti plays a sexual assault victim, while Taapsee Pannu plays her lawyer. The film is titled “Eighty” (80) because an average of 80 sexual assault cases are reported in India every day. According to director Anubhav Sinha, “Something like this happens every 18-20 minutes.” The film also stars Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, Revathi, Manoj Pahwa, Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa in lead roles. Also as reported by Sacknilk, the film has collected ₹70 lakh on the fifth day, taking the total to ₹5.6 crore. Meanwhile the film has collected ₹1 crore on the first day and ₹1.6 crore on the second and third day.
