Tough Love From Ferguson Shaped Ronaldo: Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the, if not the best players in the history of the sport. His work ethic, adaptation, and ability to score goals are second to none. But the all-time great was always not like that. At once, he was a flamboyant teenager who had just entered world fame after signing with the then-biggest club in the world, Manchester United.

Manchester United was managed by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson at that time. Ronaldo’s flashy step-overs once made Ferguson furious and the coach had ‘laid into him’. Rio Ferdinand explains the incident and the former English defender believes incidents like this have shaped Ronaldo into today’s CR7.
“We had traveled to Portugal for a mini tour and Cristiano, still in his youth, struggled to perform. I remember a game against Benfica where the manager completely laid into him. He said, ‘Who do you think you are? Coming here trying to show off, as if you’re a superstar!’ I distinctly recall Cristiano ended up in tears in the changing room. It was a wake-up call for him; Ferguson didn’t care about his reputation,” Ferdinand said in an interview.
“Look at what Cristiano became. He needed those moments. The manager realized he could be nurturing, but sometimes being tough was essential to push him to become the world’s best player at the time he left,” he added.
Ronaldo has become an all-time great and become the record-holding goalscorer in the world with 916 goals and counting. The Portuguese has already announced that he is aiming the unbelievable number of a 1000 goals before hanging up his boots
