Toyota’s 5 Upcoming Cars For India

Toyota has built a strong presence in the Indian market over the years. It currently sells a wide range of products here, including several badge-engineered models from its ongoing joint venture with Maruti Suzuki. Toyota’s India portfolio is now heavily focused on SUVs and MPVs. In the coming months, the carmaker is expected to further strengthen this lineup with a series of new launches. These will include hybrid and all-electric models as well.

Toyota is expected to launch its first EV in India in the coming weeks- the eBella. It will essentially be a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara electric SUV. The eVitara comes in three trims- Delta, Zeta and Alpha, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh. The Toyota version is also expected to follow a similar pricing pattern. Like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota may also offer Battery As A Service (BaaS) scheme on the eBella.

The Urban Cruiser eBella is based on the same HEARTECT-e skateboard platform as the eVitara and will use the same set of batteries- 49kWh and 61kWh. The former will come with a 142hp electric motor and 440 km of claimed range while the latter will have a claimed range of 543 km and a 172hp electric motor.

The eBella will differ significantly from the eVitara on the styling front. The exterior design will have Toyota’s genes in it. The cabin design and equipment array will be shared with the Maruti Suzuki counterpart although the Toyota will have slight differences in interior colours. The eBella will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and will compete with the Tata Curvv.EV, Mahindra BE6, Hyundai Creta Electric, eVitara and other mid-size electric SUVs when launched.

Toyota will retire the Innova Crysta in March next year. Lower-spec variants of the Hycross hybrid are seen as the possible alternatives. At present, the 2.0L strong hybrid powertrain is only available on the higher trims of this MPV. The Hycross enjoys a strong foothold in the hybrid space with around 49.7% representation. Its reliable strong hybrid powertrain and early mover advantage have both played key roles in shaping this acceptance.

The Hycross’ strong hybrid engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.24 kpl. The lower spec will lose some equipment but retain the 2.0L strong hybrid powertrain. It will thus have a significantly lower ex-showroom price than the outgoing variants.

hyryder 7 seater

The Hyryder SUV is expected to get a seven-seater version sometime in the near term. The three-row version was recently seen undergoing high-altitude testing. Spy pictures reveal that this SUV will have a significantly longer wheelbase and will be longer than the five-seater.

It will likely borrow its powertrains from the five-seater sibling- 1.5L mild hybrid petrol, and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol. Details of this model remain limited at the time of writing. We do know that once launched, it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, and some variants of the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.

next generation toyota hilux

Another expected launch from Toyota this year is the 9th generation Hilux that has already made its global debut. It will come with fresh styling and major in-cabin improvements. The Hilux, despite being a niche product, managed to sell 3,820 units in the calendar year 2025. The next-generation’s arrival is thus looked forward to by many.

The design will see major changes on the new model. It will get a new front fascia and subtle changes at the side and at the rear. The overall design will be made sharper and more aggressive. Inside, the colours and material quality will improve. The feature list will be revised. The new truck will get a larger infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and other features.

Underpinning the new Hilux will be an improved version of the IMV platform, with a notably better suspension setup. It will be powered by the familiar 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine making 201hp and 500Nm. The truck will also come with rugged 4×4 hardware.

And finally, Toyota will also launch the next-generation Fortuner in India, later this year. It will also be based on the upgraded IMV platform and will borrow significantly from the new Hilux, in terms of design. Going by spy sightings, the next-generation Fortuner will get a fresh front fascia and restyled rear end. The silhouette is expected to stand close to that of the outgoing model. Inside, the trims and colour schemes will improve. The vehicle will also see a major feature revamp. It will get features like a larger infotainment unit, fully digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera and more.

The Indian version is expected to carry forward the current model’s powertrain pool- 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol and 2.8L diesel with mild hybrid technology. The new model will compete with the likes of Jeep Meridian, MG Majestor, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and more.
