Veteran actor TP Madhavan passes away at 88 in Kerala

New Delhi: Sending shockwaves through the Indian entertainment industry, TP Madhavan breathed his last on Wednesday (October 9, 2024). The noted Malayalam actor was 88 years old at the time of his demise. He reportedly died at a private hospital in Kollam, Kerala.

According to PTI, Madhavan was undergoing treatment for various ailments at the medical facility. For the past eight years, he had been residing at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram.

The news of his passing quickly went viral on the Internet, with fans flooding social media with messages of mourning. “Rest in peace, TP Madhavan,” posted one user on X (formerly known as Twitter). Another wrote, “Wishing your family and loved ones strength and comfort during this difficult time.”

Who was TP Madhavan?

For the unversed, Madhavan began his journey in showbiz a bit late in life, starting his film career after the age of 40. Showcasing his commendable acting skills, Madhavan appeared in over 600 Malayalam films. He was also the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Actor Madhu gave Madhavan his first break in 1975. However, he encountered financial difficulties later on, living in a lodge in Thiruvananthapuram, which eventually led to a serial director helping him move to Gandhi Bhavan. In recent years, Madhavan had been suffering from age-related ailments.

The news agency further reported that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences on Madhavan’s passing. The 79-year-old political leader recalled that Madhavan continued acting in television serials even during his final years at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram.
