More than 50 slums were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a slum in Delhi’s Rithala area in the early hours of Thursday. The incident is said to have taken place near Rithala metro station. As soon as information about the fire was received, teams of fire department and police reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations.
According to the information, Delhi Fire Service received information about fire in the slums at around 4:15 am on Thursday. As soon as the information was received, about 15 to 16 vehicles of the fire department were sent to the spot. Due to being a densely populated area, the fire spread rapidly and within no time many slums were engulfed by it.
Firefighters along with the local police conducted relief and rescue operations. After a lot of hard work, the fire was almost controlled by 6:30 in the morning. According to preliminary information, there were more than 50 huts in this slum, most of which were destroyed in the fire.
Meanwhile, after extinguishing the fire, during the search of the debris, a burnt body of a girl was recovered, which was handed over to the police by the fire department. Earlier, information about a girl going missing after the fire had also come to light. It is believed that he died in the fire incident, although the police is investigating the entire matter.
At present the cause of the fire has not been known. Police and fire department teams are busy investigating the incident site. Officials say that all aspects are being investigated to find out the cause of the fire. After the incident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area and the affected families were taken to safe places.
