9 family members die after car falls into well – Obnews

A terrible accident took place on Friday late night, 3 April 2026, in Dindori taluka of Nashik district of Maharashtra, in which nine members of the Dargode family lost their lives. The tragic incident took place near Shivajinagar around 10 pm, when his multi-purpose vehicle (reported to be a Maruti XL6 or a similar MPV) veered off the road and fell into a water-filled well on the roadside.

The family, hailing from Indore village in Dindori taluka, had attended a get-together organized by ‘Vadje Classes’ at Raje Banquet Hall in Shivajinagar. While returning home, the driver—identified as Sunil Dattatreya Dargode (aged around 32-34 years)—allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into a well. Six children were among those killed, which shows the seriousness of this accident.

After the incident a huge crowd gathered at the spot. Local officials—including tehsildar Mukesh Kamble, police inspector Bhagwan Mathure and chief officer Sandeep Chaudhary—rushed to the spot along with the police, fire department, disaster management teams and local residents. There were many difficulties in the rescue operation due to the well being filled with water. Two cranes were used to take out the vehicle around midnight. An NDRF team also helped in the operation, which continued till late night.

All nine people traveling in the vehicle had died. The deceased have been identified as follows:

Dindori police have registered a case and started investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident; Possible factors like vehicle speed, road conditions or visibility are also being taken into consideration in the investigation. The incident has sent a wave of grief across the Dindori area, and many families with close community ties have been affected.

The tragedy has again raised concerns over road safety in rural areas, especially with regard to unmarked wells and open water bodies located near roads. Officials have appealed to be cautious while driving at night.
