Big decision of TRAI! Jio-Airtel-VI-BSNL users should know this new rule, there may be delay in receiving OTP from December 1

Obnews Tech Desk: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI has made a major change, under which telecom companies have now been instructed to implement traceability for tracking OTP i.e. One Time Password based messages. Let us tell you, the purpose of this change is to protect against online fraud and scams. Due to this, users of Jio, Airtel, VI and BSNL may have to face the changes.

Nowadays, with the increase in the use of internet and smartphones, incidents of cyber crime and online fraud are also increasing continuously. Fraudsters are now cheating users by using OTP and other messages. To deal with this, TRAI has taken a new step. Under this, all telecom companies will have to track OTP and other commercial messages so that scammers cannot misuse these messages.

New rule will come into effect from December 1

Earlier TRAI had directed to implement this rule till 31st October, but on the demand of telecom companies it was extended to 31st November. Then now, from December 1, 2024, all telecom companies will implement this rule. This means that there may be some delay in the arrival of OTP and other important messages as these will be tracked and the process may take some time.

What will be its effect?

Due to this change, there may be a slight delay if you receive OTP for banking, ticket reservation or other important services. However, its biggest advantage is that now scammers will not be able to commit fraud through OTP, which will increase your online security. This step of TRAI is especially to prevent frauds due to fake OTP messages. Through such messages, scammers access users' devices and cause financial loss to them. Now telecom companies will track these messages, so that such crimes can be stopped.

Fraud will end completely

After this change, even though there may be a slight delay in the OTP message, users will get a secure and reliable experience. Its objective is to completely eliminate online fraud, so that telecom users can remain safe.
