If you understand it simply: In ordinary trains (Non-AC): If you are traveling more than 215 kilometers, then you will have to pay 1 paise more per kilometer. In Mail/Express and all AC trains: There has been an increase of 2 paise per kilometer. Understand this with an example: If If you are traveling 500 kilometers in a sleeper or AC coach, then there will be an additional burden of only Rs 10 on your pocket. Good news: There will be no impact on these people! The best thing about this increase is that it will not have any impact on crores of common passengers of the country: The fares of local trains have not increased. There has also been no increase in the monthly season ticket (MST Pass). Those doing short journeys up to 215 kilometers will also have to pay the old rate. Only one ticket will be available. But why did the Railways increase this fare? Railways says that in the last 10 years, the network of trains and tracks has increased a lot, new trains have started running. Expenditure on security and facilities has also become higher than before. The salary and pension expenses of the employees have also increased significantly. Just to reduce the burden of this increasing expense, this slight increase has been made. On which trains will the new rates be applicable? This increase will be applicable on almost all big trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Garib Rath etc. Another important thing: This new fare will be applicable only on those tickets which are booked on or after December 26, 2025. If you have already booked your ticket, you will not have to pay any extra money. This small change is an effort to improve the Railways, so that your journey can be safer and more comfortable than before.
