Triumph Motorcycles is gearing up to expand its 400 cc lineup with the highly anticipated Thruxton 400which was recently spotted testing in India. Set to debut as early as next year, the Thruxton 400 promises to bring a retro-styled café racer experience to the mid-capacity segment, drawing design inspiration from its larger sibling, the Thruxton 1200.
Triumph Thruxton 400: Classic Café Racer Styling
The test mule of the Thruxton 400 reveals its signature café racer aesthetics:
- Semi-Fairing: Mimics the design language of the now-retired Thruxton 1200, offering a sleek and aerodynamic front.
- LED Round Headlamp: Retro-inspired yet modern in functionality.
- Clip-On Handlebars: For an aggressive and committed riding posture.
- Bar-End Rearview Mirrors: Add to the vintage charm of the motorcycle.
The overall styling aligns closely with the Triumph Speed 400while introducing elements that set it apart as a café racer.
Specifications: Power and Performance
At the heart of the Thruxton 400 will be Triumph’s 398 cc single-cylinder engineexpected to deliver 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of peak torque. While this engine powers other models in the 400 cc range, the Thruxton may see tweaks for a sportier, more performance-oriented character.
The ride-by-wire throttle and slip-and-assist clutch from the Speed 400 are likely to carry over, ensuring smooth and controlled power delivery.
Chassis and Hardware
The Thruxton 400 shares its underpinnings with Triumph’s 400 cc platform but brings some unique elements:
- Suspension: USD front forks and a rear monoshock, potentially tuned for the Thruxton’s café racer dynamics.
- Braking: Disc brakes on both ends with dual-channel ABS for reliable stopping power.
- Weight Management: Adjustments to accommodate the semi-fairing and café racer design.

The Thruxton 400 is expected to launch in the first half of 2024. Manufactured locally by Bajaj Auto at its plant in Maharashtra, the bike is likely to carry an ex-showroom price of ₹2.60 lakhplacing it between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X.
