In a new development in the ongoing India-Pakistan saga over next year's Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly rejected the proposed hybrid model for the event and is considering India's decision to travel to Pakistan. An explanation has been sought from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the refusal.

PCB sought answers from BCCI

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, speaking on Monday (November 18, 2024), revealed that the board has not yet received any response from the ICC regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s decision not to send its men's team to Pakistan. . Earlier in November, the BCCI had officially informed the ICC that it would not participate in the tournament in Pakistan and requested that its matches be held at a neutral venue.

A PTI report quoted Naqvi as saying, “If India has any concerns about sending its team to Pakistan then they should talk to us and we will address them. I don't think India will have any concerns about sending their team to Pakistan.” There is some reason for not coming to Pakistan.”

“We are in direct communication with the ICC and we are still awaiting a response from them so that we can move things forward,” he said.

Despite India's refusal, PCB still awaits reply from ICC “I am here to talk about the progress of the construction work and we are waiting for the reply from ICC as they also have to announce the schedule.”

“We are ahead of our deadline to complete construction and finishing at all three stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.”

India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and the Champions Trophy is scheduled for February-March 2025. Naqvi, who was recently appointed as the federal interior minister, said the PCB had then written a letter to the ICC regarding the situation conveyed to the BCCI.

Naqvi also declined to comment on the controversy surrounding the Champions Trophy tour in Muzaffarabad, an area claimed by India and part of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. BCCI had earlier objected to the inclusion of the disputed area in the tour. Regarding the preparations for the tournament, Naqvi assured that the renovation work at the tournament venues is going on as per plan.
